To achieve this, we are expanding our technical team and seeking a Skilled Machinist to join our operation in Ipswich, working as part of a small/succinct team of technicians, whilst operating within an excellent working environment, About the Candidate: We are looking for a skilled Machinist, CNC or manual with experience in general machine operation who would welcome a change in industry. This is an exciting permanent opportunity to work within the rail industry and for one of the UK's foremost Rail Freight Operators. Physically fit, you will be a confident Team Player, although the nature of the work means that working alone will be part of the operational day. The Role / Requirements The role involves operating a wheel lathe within a small engineering depot. Operating over a mixed shift 4on / 4 off pattern, the working week over the year averages to 39 hours per week plus occasional overtime carrying out wheel re-profiling work using a ground lathe. As a Wheel Lathe Operative, you will be a key member of the engineering team, applying your machining skills to operate a state-of-the-art wheel lathe machine. This is a safety-critical operations role where your attention to detail, accountability, and knowledge of machine operation will be crucial for maintaining key rolling stock assets. Performing routine maintenance on the lathe and its associated tooling Interpreting technical drawings and engineering specifications Upholding the highest safety standards at all times This role requires demonstrable experience as a machinist and the ability to work on a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern (covering days and nights) Operating the wheel lathe machine, a specific type of machining tool Using micrometres and gauges for accurate measurement and inspection of wheels Performing routine maintenance on the lathe and its associated tooling Operational training will be provided by a member of the lathe team plus mentoring in the early stages of the familiarisation process Remuneration Salary: Basic earnings of £41,000.00 per annum rising to £43,108 after 6 months, with technical modules and overtime opportunities allowing earnings of up to £48,000 per annum.
