Overview
Penningtons Manches Cooper is seeking a Paralegal to join its Travel Law team in Guildford. The team is recognized as one of the leading specialist teams nationally, acting as a trusted advisor to the UK travel insurance industry. The role involves representing policyholders involved in accidents abroad, working in both Claimant and Defendant capacities, and collaborating with international offices and networks.
The successful candidate will be part of a team supporting senior solicitors and partners in handling high-value, complex foreign accident claims. Experience in personal injury work, along with strong communication and organizational skills, is required. Fluency in a foreign language is desirable but not essential. The position offers engaging work in a supportive, collegiate environment.
The firm supports a hybrid working policy, allowing up to 50% remote work, with flexible options available during recruitment or employment.
Responsibilities
* Handle foreign litigated claims under solicitor supervision
* Manage key stakeholders: UK travel insurer, client, foreign lawyer
* Report on policy terms, exclusion clauses, reserves, etc.
* Support fee earners with case management
* Draft legal documents and correspondence
* Conduct legal research and prepare reports
* Manage client care documentation and follow-up
* Obtain and organize medical records
* Arrange appointments and prepare legal documentation such as disclosure lists, Schedules of Loss, witness statements, and bundles
* Coordinate expert appointments and draft instructions
* Attend conferences and settlement meetings with experts and counsel
Essential & Desirable Criteria
* Degree or CILEX qualification
* Excellent communication skills
* Strong organizational and workload management skills
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritize effectively
* Understanding of fee earner needs and commercial awareness
* Collaborative team player with relationship-building skills
* Confidence in client-facing interactions
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Receptive to change and supportive of innovation
* Fluency in a foreign language (desirable)
