Social Worker – Assessment & Intervention, South Essex
Salary: £34,902 to £50,081 per annum.

Job Type: Full Time (Permanent, Community‑based worker).

This position is open to Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) and experienced Social Workers. For NQSWs the starting salary is £34,902 per annum, rising to £37,185 upon successful completion of the ASYE programme. For experienced workers the basic salary ranges between £37,185 and £50,081 per annum.
Role Overview
We are looking for Social Workers to join our Assessment & Intervention teams in South Essex. These teams are the gateway through which children, young people, parents/carers and other agencies gain access to Children and Families services. The role involves working with families from pre‑birth up to the child’s 18th birthday, conducting assessments, providing short‑term intervention, and liaising with partners such as police and other agencies.
Responsibilities
* Manage a defined caseload of children and families, working effectively to achieve positive change.
* Conduct enquiries, assessments, purposeful intervention, direct work and reviews in relation to Child Protection, Child in Need and Children Looked After.
* Support the transfer of cases to Family Support and Protection Teams, or to Children in Care where permanency is required.
* Collaborate with partners to assess immediate risk and support children who become subject to a child protection plan.
* Provide timely case reviews, documentation and reporting in line with professional standards.
* Work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends, and be mobile across a wide operational area.
Qualifications
* Diploma or degree in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent and registration with Social Work England as a registered Social Worker.
* Demonstrable capability of practice in accordance with current professional standards (PCF, KSS).
* Strong application of social work knowledge, emotional intelligence, analytical skills, and confidence in challenging social and family situations.
* Good working knowledge of information technology and related systems (e.g., Word, case recording systems).
* Valid driving licence and a vehicle, or alternative means of mobility to travel within Essex.
