Are you ready to launch a hands-on career in the high voltage cable industry? Prysmian Group, the global leader in power and communications solutions, is seeking motivated individuals to join our UK Power Grids team as Trainee Cable Technicians.
About the Role
As a Trainee Cable Technician, you’ll embark on a 12-month, fully paid training programme based at our dedicated Jointing School in Eastleigh, Hampshire. You’ll learn from industry experts and gain practical skills in:
1. XLPE cable installation
2. Servicing and repairing fluid-filled cables
3. Braising, welding, and lead plumbing
4. High voltage cable jointing and terminating (elastomeric and fluid-filled)
5. Cable system maintenance
Upon successful completion, you’ll have the opportunity for further training and a clear pathway to become a fully qualified Cable Technician.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds but have found that people with experience in the trades (such as electricians, plumbers, mechanics, or similar) transition particularly well into this role. Your hands-on experience and proven problem-solving abilities are highly valued here. Don’t worry if you don’t meet every requirement, if you’re passionate about learning and teamwork, you could be a great fit.
Key Skills and Attributes:
6. Enjoys solving problems and is confident approaching practical, hands‑on tasks
7. Curious about how things work and motivated to develop technical skills (full training provided)
8. Comfortable learning to use tools and equipment (previous experience is helpful but not essential)
9. Open to a varied work schedule, including travel across the UK (fully supported)
10. Happy working outdoors, (appropriate gear and guidance are always provided)
11. Values safety, collaboration and continuous personal development
12. Holds a full UK driving licence (essential for the role)
13. Able to be based in Eastleigh during training (accommodation and expenses covered for those relocating)
