Ferguson Transport & Shipping is recruiting for an HGV Driver Instructor.
Based at the Company’s Logistics Hub in Annat, Fort William you will have a leading role in the identification of training needs; organising and delivering training or ‘classroom’ or ‘online’ training materials for HGV Drivers, Shunter and Trainee Drivers. Assisting the Transport Manager with Transport Office Staff training.
There is scope for this role to be full time or part time and consideration may be given to flexible working hours to facilitate travel to our Logistics Hub in annat, Fort William.. Travelling to other depots will be required to fulfil the needs of the role; with use of a company car (private use of company car is not included).
The successful candidate must have excellent knowledge of, and ideally experience of, working in the General Haulage or Logistics Industry. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint is also required. Being highly organised with good administration skills is essential for this role along with being adaptable to change.
About you:
1. Previous experience in a similar role or relevant qualification within the road haulage industry or associated training role would be an advantage
2. An HGV C+E licence is essential and a Certificate of Professional Competence in national Road Haulage Operations would be a bonus
3. Knowledge of MS Office; particularly Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
4. Confident, professional manner;
5. Strong organisational skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
7. Excellent attention to detail
Main Responsibilities (list not exhaustive and internal support provided):
8. Supporting the Transport Directors, you will escalate any issues that occur during delivery of inductions and training.
9. Apply expert knowledge through training to ensure all drivers follow company standard operating procedures, improve driving technique, fuel efficiency, and reduce accident rates.
10. Carry out accident/incident investigation and report writing (with the wider team)
11. Keep up to date with DVSA working practices, including Earned Recognition
12. Implement a training programme based on the SAFED principles with a view to reducing the overall fuel consumption of the fleet.
13. Set up and maintain the company registration as a training provider with the JAUPT, write, develop and deliver CPC course suitable for the business needs and external parties.
14. Work alongside HR and the Transport Managers to recruit HGV Drivers, from reviewing applications, to interview and driver assessments.
15. Conduct a programme of Behaviour Based Safety Training with ADR training provider.
16. Support the EU & RTWTD Analyst with tachograph analysis and managing driver’s hours.
17. In the longer term: Set up and maintain the company registration as a training provider with the SQA, develop and deliver ADR course suitable for the business needs and external parties.
18. In the longer term: Create and develop internal driver training modules, with the support of Transport Office staff and Human Resources, to suit individual Driver progression plans and the needs of the business – including HGV driver training, forklift, plant and machinery (where deemed competent)
