Trust Doctor in Interventional Radiology

The post is for a full time Interventional Radiology trainee based mainly at The Royal London Hospital but also at St Bartholomew's Hospital.

You will join a dynamic and evolving workforce in an organisation with a dedicated interventional radiology suite which is amongst the largest in the UK with significant plans for expansion.

The service is made up of 12 substantive consultant interventional radiologists, 8 dedicated interventional radiographers and 45 nurses who support interventional radiology lists as well as 6 health care assistants. The service has five dedicated interventional radiology rooms and 2 hybrid room operating rooms, 1 at RLH and 1 at SBH.

The candidate will be responsible for participating in duties related to interventional radiology across Barts Health NHS Trust.


Main duties of the job

To provide a first class clinical service in Interventional Radiology.

To provide radiological expertise in terms of advice for imaging and reporting.

To actively participate in research, statutory and mandatory training, education and audit programmes.

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care

To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the NHS Cancer Plan, the Improving Outcomes reports and National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance reports.

To maintain and promote team and multidisciplinary work.

To engage fully in the appraisal/assessment cycle.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* FRCR or equivalent
* Full GMC registration.


Experience

* Eligible for specialist register in Radiology
* Radiology SpR in an approved training post, or equivalent training
* Or Previous Clinical fellow experience
* Demonstrable commitment and enthusiasm for Interventional radiology., with previous experience
* Evidence of recent CME/reasonable training progression at this stage of career
* Experience in audit project and written up


Knowledge

* Appropriate levels of clinical knowledge
* Shows awareness of own limitations
* Demonstrates knowledge of evidence informed practice
* Demonstrate wide awareness of issues in health care


Skills

* Ability to prioritise clinical need. Ability to effectively organise oneself and own work
* Active involvement in audit with demonstration of improved outcomes/change. Relevant Information Technology Skills. Understanding of NHS, clinical governance & resource constraints; management/ financial awareness; experience of committee work
* Ability to take a leading developing/managing a clinical area
* Evidence of teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and ability to teach clinical skills in multidisciplinary settings. Willingness to contribute to departments teaching and training needs
* Ability to practice evidence-based medicine
* Research experience/ publications/presentations
* Experience in development and implementation of clinical guidelines
* "Good Clinical Practice" trained


Other

* Ability to cope with stressful situations and undertake responsibility / able to work under pressure
* Demonstration of good communication skills and leadership qualities
* Ability to work as part of a multi professional team
