West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust continues to develop its strategy function. We are looking to attract talent from within and outside the NHS to improve the way we plan long‑term. We recently refreshed our Clinical Strategy 2025‑2030 and have progressed towards integration within our wider Health and Care Partnership. It is an exciting time to join the team and contribute to transforming the health and care services for our local population.
The team operates a standard Monday to Friday schedule. Flexible working options are available. This is a fixed‑term, second‑ment 12‑month contract.
Key Responsibilities
* Managing strategic programmes (clinical service redesign, service repatriation, provider collaboration, etc).
* Appraising, generating, interpreting strategic insights and developing strategic options.
* Building relationships and cooperating with clinical and non‑clinical teams.
* Supporting, coaching and managing colleagues in other teams working on complex programmes.
* Day‑to‑day programme delivery.
* Working with new hospital developments (Watford), updating theatres at St Albans City Hospital, and planning a neighbourhood healthcare centre in Hemel Hempstead.
* Contributing to the award‑winning virtual hospital and re‑imagining models of care, using advances in digital healthcare.
* Promoting staff wellbeing, development, and innovation to improve clinical care, outcomes and patient experience.
Role Context
The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team supporting and influencing the decision‑making process at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The role helps the Trust document its long‑term ambitions by managing major strategic programmes, integrating the strategic vision into established processes, leading programmes while working with teams and partner organisations, and making tangible progress towards an improved health and care service. The post holder will work with a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical stakeholders both within the trust and externally. A great candidate should be able to operate effectively in a flexible, demanding and sometimes uncertain environment, challenging existing views to foster productive debates on complex issues.
