Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Band 6 Charge Nurse/Sister to join our team at the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU). EAU4 is a fast‑paced and welcoming unit that sees a high volume of patients requiring short‑term (24‑72 hour) treatment. With a capacity of 24 patients, EAU4 operates under Acute Medicine and we are looking for a dedicated nurse to provide top‑quality care to our patients. Depending on your level of experience, training and support will be provided to help you succeed in this role. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable management experience and further develop your clinical and professional skills with the guidance of our experienced Band 6 team and Ward manager.
Main Duties
* Work as part of a team both on the ward as a Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse and with other multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure a seamless delivery of service.
* Co‑ordinate the ward to maintain flow and the patients’ journey.
* Assess the care needs of the patients and their families; support the team to develop, implement and evaluate care to a high standard, while demonstrating compassion and maintaining patients’ dignity.
* Participate as a skilled member of the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Act as a clinical advisor on nursing issues to ensure a high‑standard of care is maintained using evidence‑based practice.
* Participate in direct care and facilitate sound discharge planning.
About Us
We are a busy 24‑bed emergency assessment unit. The ward admits patients of all specialities referred from ED and AMU—including cardiovascular, respiratory, gastroenterology and chronic health conditions—predominantly medicine, with a high turnover on each shift. Staff are exposed to managing patients with higher acuity at times on the unit.

Person Specification
Essential – Qualifications and Training
* Registered Nurse with current NMC Pin number
* Proven relevant experience at Band 5
* Evidence of continual professional development
* Experienced in giving IV medications
Desirable – Urgent Care Knowledge
* Knowledge and experience in urgent care
Essential – Knowledge & Experience
* Safe and competent practitioner aware of own limitations and needs
* Experienced in giving IV medications
* IT skills including data entry, Microsoft Word, etc.
* Senior band 5 coordinating in an acute ward setting
Desirable – Medical Care Interest
* Interest in medical care
Essential – Requirements due to Work Environment/Conditions
* Able to work flexibly across the 24‑hour rota
* Willingness to learn new skills
