About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Midlands R&D Incentives team as an R&D Incentives Consultant. With true flexibility, you can choose to work from either of our Midlands offices or from home if you live a bit further away.
Our R&D team brings together the cohesion of a close-knit group with the capability of a 35‑strong, high‑performing consultancy. We actively support one another and share a commitment to building something that endures. Our strength lies in the breadth and depth of our expertise – spanning engineering, biotechnology, chemistry, and IT, alongside more unconventional perspectives (including an astrophysicist). We support our clients through R&D tax incentives and Patent Box relief as well as through working with an ecosystem of advisors such as grant providers, patent attorneys and PE houses.
A Day in the Life of an Innovation Consultant
* Support R&D “Delivery Leads” Managers on claims, performing tasks in a timely and diligent manner
* Take notes in workshops with clients, capturing actions and contributing to the conversation
* Draft R&D reports and technical project descriptions
* Undertake costing calculations
* Seek opportunities to support senior members of the team on practice development initiatives, by way of engagement in the annual process improvements meetings / participation in team meetings
* Through this role you will develop core soft skills, including:
o Oral and written communication skills
o Project management skills, particularly workload planning, prioritisation, risk identification and managing actions
o Excel skills, including proficiency with lookups and pivot tables
o Resilience – develop your personal resilience, build techniques to manage stress and your own emotional wellbeing
o Building your LinkedIn profile and presence
About You
As an R&D Consultant you will need to have an analytical outlook with a process‑driven mindset. You must possess strong oral and written skills which you are keen to develop, and you will be able to prioritise your workload well.
* Experience in R&D tax claims from both a technical and financial perspective
* Ideally, you will have R&D experience within an accountancy practice or have worked in one of our relevant industries (e.g., engineering/manufacturing)
* Ideally have a degree in a technical field, such as engineering
* Be technically minded
