Overview
Occupational Therapy Clinical Specialist – Band 7. Part time position (30 hours) in the Bay Locality Lancaster and Morecambe – Older Adult Community Mental Health Services. The post holder will use highly developed, specialist knowledge of the relationship between occupational therapy and mental health to act as an expert resource for OT practice within Integrated Older Adult CMHT in Lancaster and Morecambe.
The post holder will primarily have a clinical caseload in the home treatment team (HTT) function within the Rapid Intervention and Treatment Team (RITT), a 7 day service operating between 8 am – 8 pm. Some weekend work may be required. The post holder will also supervise Band 5 and Band 6 OT staff in the older adult CMHT and memory assessment functions.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership and supervision for occupational therapy staff (Band 5 and Band 6) within the older adult CMHT and memory assessment functions.
* Deliver a clinical caseload within the HTT/RITT model, contributing to rapid assessment and treatment of older adults with mental health needs.
* Innovate and lead improvements, acting as a champion of new ideas within older adult mental health.
* Offer an occupational perspective to service developments and team approaches; articulate occupational therapy roles to local managers, team colleagues, service users and carers.
* Assist local managers to develop multidisciplinary team practice to meet the occupational needs of the population served.
* Act as a consultant on clinical developments and monitor local practice relative to national guidance and established best practice.
Qualifications & Experience
* Existing Band 7 Occupational Therapist or experienced Band 6 in older adult mental health seeking a specialist role.
* Strong knowledge of the relationship between occupational therapy and mental health in older adults.
* Experience supervising and supporting junior OT staff.
* Ability to lead service developments and work within a multidisciplinary team.
