We’re seeking an experienced Head of Legal (Employment) to lead and inspire a small, high-performing team of employment specialists who provide expert advice, representation, and protection to union members across the UK.
In this pivotal position, you’ll oversee complex employment law matters including unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, and contractual disputes — ensuring members receive outstanding legal support. You’ll also play a key strategic role, shaping the delivery of legal services, mentoring solicitors, and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders and partner firms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage a team of Employment Lawyers and caseworkers, providing guidance, supervision, and professional development.
2. Oversee high-profile and complex employment tribunal cases.
3. Ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality legal advice to union members.
4. Contribute to policy development and strategic decision-making at a senior level.
5. Represent the organisation externally, promoting fairness, equality, and workers’ rights.
About You
6. Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with significant post-qualification experience in employment law.
7. Strong leadership and management skills, with experience developing teams.
8. A sound understanding of trade union principles and employment protection.
9. Excellent communication, advocacy, and strategic thinking skills.
