Main duties of the job
• To supervise (clinical and educational supervision) doctors in training in the GI team and to undertake teaching as appropriate.
• To attend the unit specific MDMs, clinics and departmental meetings
• To lead Inpatient board rounds and reviews on the designated days
• To participate in and support the multidisciplinary care team which includes Medical Oncologists, Clinical Oncologists, Surgeons, the relevant junior team, Specialist Nursing Staff, Therapists, Dietician, Social worker, Palliative Care and Counselling for patients and families.
• The post holder will be expected to participate fully in Peer Review preparation and visits, and Peer Review required Audits.
• As a senior member of the medical team, the post holder would provide leadership and support for the effective development of the GI Unit specific services discussed within the 6 monthly operational policy meetings.
• The post holder will contribute to the development of the departmental objectives and would manage resources within the approved plan. The consultant would be part of the Cancer Services Division and would be accountable to the Divisional Medical Director.
• The post holder will be expected to work closely with consultant colleagues in other oncology services in South-West London and RM Partners and participate in related meetings.
• To work within the department to seek ways of improving the efficiency of the service without sacrificing quality.

Experience
Essential criteria
1. Broad based experience in oncology, including systemic therapies
2. Significant experience in clinical and translational research
3. Significant interest and experience in the management of acute oncology patients
Desirable criteria
4. Undergraduate and postgraduate training experience
5. Management and leadership
Status
Essential criteria
6. Full GMC Registration and licence to practice
7. Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent qualifications
Desirable criteria
8. Higher degree MD or PHD

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
