Role Overview

Our team of hundreds of skilled experts keep Formula 1 moving. You could play a vital part as a Senior Electronics Engineer (FRO) to design, build, integrate, maintain, and support the electrical and electromechanical systems required for Sea Freight operations. The F1 Electronics department produces a wide range of customised and bespoke solutions to support the timing, televising, and organisation of Formula 1 events. We architect and design embedded systems for F1 cars to provide team telemetry and driver/engineer audio, and to deliver on‑board video and audio for F1 broadcasters and digital platforms. This is in addition to a variety of other electronics solutions designed by our small in-house team to support any aspect of an F1 event.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Design, build, assemble, and test electrical and electromechanical equipment, including wiring looms, harnesses, and electrical enclosures.
* Perform maintenance, servicing, and fault‑finding on equipment using appropriate tools and test equipment.
* Produce and maintain multiple equipment sets for Sea Freight operations, ensuring consistency and build quality.
* Take product requirements and break them down to hardware level requirements.
* Support design tasks, such as loom drawings, enclosure layouts, component selection, and minor PCB updates.
* Integrate off‑the‑shelf electronic components into complete, reliable system assemblies.
* Carry out functional testing, verification, and documentation to ensure equipment is ready for deployment.
* Maintain accurate build, service, and configuration documentation, and contribute to improving processes.
* Participate in project and engineering review meetings, providing updates and contributing to planning, testing, and documentation activities.
* Support engineering processes by preparing accurate technical documentation and ensuring alignment with project and quality requirements.
* Maintain a proactive, solutions‑focused approach to resolving issues and ensuring continuity of operations.

Personal Qualities

* Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve complex technical issues.
* Operate effectively in a high‑pressed and challenging environment while maintaining a methodical and structured approach to work.
* Highly motivated, flexible to change, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
* Detail‑oriented with a strong focus on quality, performance, and reliability.

Qualifications

* Educated to degree level (or equivalent vocational and industry experience) in electronics engineering (or suitable equivalent).
* Strong engineering background including electronics, schematic understanding, and the capability to contribute to or review PCB and hardware designs.
* Proven experience in hardware design, development, or integration with an understanding of high‑reliability system requirements.
* Hands‑on experience assembling and supporting electrical/electromechanical systems, including wiring looms, enclosures, and off‑the‑shelf components.
* Experience debugging hardware during system integration and performing structured fault‑finding using electronic test equipment.
* Practical experience maintaining or servicing existing equipment to ensure consistency and readiness.

Desirable Experience

* Working in broadcast or automotive (motorsport) industries.

Knowledge & Skills

* Strong practical electrical/electronics skills, including soldering, crimping, cable termination, and basic PCB rework.
* Ability to read and produce wiring diagrams, loom drawings, and assembly documentation.
* Good understanding of electrical components, power distribution, connectors, and system integration principles.
* Competent in the use of electronic test equipment for fault‑finding and verification.
* Familiarity with electromechanical assemblies and enclosure build practices.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Good planning skills, including the ability to prioritise and multi‑task effectively.
* Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation for internal and external use.
