With Endoscopy expanding its services, we have exciting opportunities for experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Endoscopy nurses wishing to develop their leadership skills as a permanent Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse on our Endoscopy unit. The role provides the opportunity to gain and develop leadership experience while caring for patients undergoing Endoscopic procedures.
Responsibilities
* Demonstrate leadership and management skills in support of the unit manager, coordinating with all members of the team and the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Deliver clinical activities during the span of duty and clinically lead a nursing team to ensure a high standard of patient care at all times.
* Regularly deputise for the unit manager in their absence, drive forward evidence-based practice, supervise staff, and implement unit policies and practices.
* Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
* Support and train new starters, junior and bank/agency staff, providing the clinical skills and expertise required for the unit.
* Deliver direct patient care while coordinating and overseeing nursing practice.
On-call and hours
You will be part of a 7-day service; registered nurses on the unit participate in an out-of-hours on-call service for emergencies following training, with on-call attendance expected within one hour of call out.
The Endoscopy unit is now providing a 7-day working service.
About the unit
The Endoscopy unit at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital comprises 5 purpose-built procedure rooms. The unit delivers the Bowel Cancer screening service alongside the diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy service to outpatients and inpatients. We are a training unit, supporting ongoing professional development for medical staff and nurse endoscopists. The unit works closely with Gastroenterologists, Colorectal surgeons, Nurse Endoscopists, clinical nurse specialists and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The unit collaborates with the Research and Innovation Team as it is involved in many clinical trials.
Who we are looking for
* Registered nurses with current NMC registration and Endoscopy experience.
* Leadership/management experience and the ability to support and supervise a nursing team.
* Flexible in approach and able to respond to changing workload.
* Willingness to train and support new starters, junior and agency staff.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Current NMC registration as a qualified nurse.
* Experience in Endoscopy and competency to deliver direct patient care and supervise nursing practice.
* Ability to work flexibly and participate in a 7-day service including on-call duties after training.
