The Theatre Department in the Princess of Wales Hospital is looking for a Theatre Practitioner to join their busy team.
The successful applicant must have an in depth knowledge of the health service with first level Nursing registration or the Operating Department Practitioner qualification.
The applicant must demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. The successful applicant must be dynamic and pro-active, and be flexible to changing work demands.
The successful applicant will join a supportive team who are passionate about department and the quality of care they deliver.
This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable at Level 3 Speaking/Listening (or ‘B2’ Level if you’ve learnt Welsh as an adult). This doesn’t mean you have to be ‘fluent’ or be able to write long reports in Welsh; it just means being hold to simple conversations with patient. Main duties of the job
To act as a scrub practitioner/circulating practitioner for the whole range of surgical specialties.
The post holder will be expected to:
* work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, high-quality patientfocused perioperative care to patients.
* meet the care needs of patients.
* carry out a full range of registered heath care professional duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s condition and care with support from the practitioner in charge as required
* monitor and respond to patients. This will include the ability to undertake clinical assessments, assess events, assess problems or changes in patient’s conditions and provide solutions participate in the setting and monitoring of quality standards in relation to clinical practice.
* participate in the education and training of other staff members.
* continue own personal and professional development by rotating within the peri-operative care environment relevant to their sphere of practice.

Person specification
Knowledge
* Nursing degree / Registered General Nurse or equivalent (Registered Operating Department Practitioner for example)
Experience
* Must be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the surgical environment and type of work to be undertaken
* Previous experience in a theatre environment
* Welsh language skills speaking/listening at Level 3 or above
Flexible to meet the needs of the service
* Must be flexible to be able to work out of hours including nights and weekends
* Must be able to achieve the set competencies within a set time frame.
* Student placement in Theatre
Knowledge of risk management
* Risk management with awareness of how this impacts the role.
* BLS/ALS/PALS. Previous involvement in risk assessing.
Knowledge of safeguarding
* To have an understanding of who's responsibility safeguarding is.
* Has been involved with safeguarding.
* Able to demonstrate awareness of patient safety
