Residential Staff (Band 4)

Salary: £14.06 per hour
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
We are seeking compassionate, motivated, and resilient individuals to join our team as Residential Staff within our Children’s Residential Service in Newry. This role plays a vital part in providing high‑quality care, safety, and support to young people living in our residential home.

1. Minimum one year’s experience working with children and young people.

2. NVQ Level III in Caring for Children and Young People or an equivalent Health & Social Care–related qualification.

3. Enhanced Access NI clearance is required.
4. NISCC registration is essential.
Key Duties & Responsibilities (Summary)
5. Provide night‑time care and supervision for young people, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
6. Remain active and alert throughout the shift, carrying out monitoring, checks, and supervision as directed.
7. Maintain accurate records, observations, and documentation in line with statutory and Trust procedures.
8. Offer emotional and practical support during crises, using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Integrated Therapeutic Care approaches.
9. Communicate appropriately with parents, carers, and professionals when required.
10. Participate in team meetings, reflective practice, and supervision to support continuous improvement.
11. Build positive, professional relationships that promote healthy development and socially acceptable behaviour.
12. Support young people’s engagement in the local community and daily living activities.
13. Help create a nurturing environment prioritising safety, security, education, and emotional wellbeing.
14. Respond sensitively to individual needs relating to culture, religion, language, and identity.
15. Assist with daily tasks such as bedtime routines, cooking, housework, personal care, and clothing management.
16. Undertake household duties to maintain a clean, safe home environment.
17. Administer medication and first aid in line with Trust policies (training provided).
18. Conduct night‑time safety checks and respond to alarms or security systems.
19. Participate fully in all mandatory and ongoing training.
20. Ensure the safe handling and recording of Trust and public monies.
21. Work flexible hours to meet service needs.
22. Take part in handover discussions at both the start and end of shifts.
23. Apply and update Risk Assessments and Individual Crisis Support Plans as required.
24. Follow safeguarding procedures, reporting all concerns appropriately.
25. Work collaboratively with partner agencies such as PSNI, healthcare services, RESWS, and emergency services.
26. Drive your own vehicle (or arrange suitable alternatives if unable to drive) and, when required, drive the home vehicle (subject to checks).
27. Adhere to all Trust policies, Health & Safety requirements, and undertake any other duties relevant to the role.
