The Role
As a Technical Designer within Modus’, you will play a pivotal role in the ongoing technical delivery of complex workplace and commercial interior projects for key clients. Working across multiple live environments, you will be responsible for developing, coordinating and developing detailed technical design packages that supports seamless project delivery.
This role requires an experienced technical professional who can operate confidently across multiple projects, balancing design excellence with practicality, compliance and programme demands. You will act as a trusted technical lead, collaborating closely with project managers, consultants, contractors and client stakeholders to ensure designs are robust, coordinated and deliverable.
Key Responsibilities
* Design Coordination: Spearhead the technical design coordination process, ensuring seamless integration and collaboration between interior designers, technical teams and construction professionals by holding internal and external workshops and producing minutes where required.
* Develop Technical Documentation: Developing independently detailed Revit models and comprehensive technical drawing packages, ensuring strict compliance with industry regulations, building codes and client requirements.
* Manage Technical Design Process: Manage the technical design process end-to-end, ensuring accuracy, feasibility, and cost-effectiveness throughout project execution. This includes producing and managing full technical documentation including conducting surveys in order to have an accurate basis for the project. BIM Management Knowledge of desirable in order to accurately manage the project information.
* Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a key liaison with specialist sub-contractors, engineers, and commercial teams to facilitate the delivery of high-quality workplace interiors, resolving technical challenges proactively.
* Quality Assurance & Compliance: Conduct regular site visits to oversee installations, resolve complex design challenges, and ensure strict adherence to specifications and quality standards. Collaborate extensively with building control officers and external consultants to guarantee compliance with all necessary statutory regulations.
Skills & Experience
* Education: Preferably Qualified ARB Architect / Part 2 Architectural Assistant / Technical Designer.
* Experience: Significant proven experience in commercial fit-out and proven experience on site for minimum 2 years. This role requires a strong understanding of the technical requirements of a project Stage 3-6 with construction package production as a must for the later stages of projects.
* Technical Proficiency: Mandatory proficiency in Revit 3D and 2D, alongside strong skills in AutoCAD and Adobe Suite (InDesign/Photoshop).
* Technical Acumen: Demonstrated strong technical acumen with keen attention to detail, capable of producing and managing detailed design drawings for construction.
* Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of building codes, regulations, and safety standards, with the ability to ensure designs comply and manage Building Control Trackers.
* Communication & Presentation: Confidence in client-facing roles with exceptional, articulate presentation skills.
* Project Management Skills: Excellent time management skills and the ability to effectively coordinate multiple simultaneous projects.
* Commercial Awareness: Strong commercial awareness and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable Skills & Attributes:
* Experience with advanced building knowledge and construction stages with a focus on delivery.
* Good freehand drawing skills.
* Ability to thrive under pressure, consistently meeting deadlines, particularly during pitches and tenders.
* Proven ability to lead and inspire others towards common objectives and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement.
