Intern Engineer
£20,000pa
Contract duration: September 2024 – August 2025 (9-12 month Undergraduate Industrial Placement Year)
Hours of work: Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5pm (30 min lunch break).
Dutypoint produces, sells and distributes pump systems primarily to the construction sector for the provision of solutions such as hot and cold water, water pressure booster sets, waste water management systems and fire safety sprinkler systems.
We are an innovative and dynamic company with new products and improved versions of existing products being launched each year as well as ambitious growth plans for the future.
We are currently recruiting for an Intern Engineer for our New Product Development department.
This role would ideally suit a University student who is currently studying a degree that combines research & development with a technical element such as finding creative solutions to problems through production engineering.
You may be currently studying a degree with a creative and technical slant such as Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Product Design.
This opportunity is perfect for you if you are an undergraduate who is seeking a company to gain some useful skills and experience in a commercial working environment for your Industrial Placement year.
Your duties and responsibilities will include:
* Shadowing colleagues to learn about the role and NPD department
* Assisting the engineering and design team with NPD project related work including design option analysis
* Prototyping
* Value engineering
* Draughting 3D CAD drawings using Solidworks
* Environmental product declarations
* Finite element analysis
* Rendering.
Dutypoint offers a Supported Registration Scheme (SRS) with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). This provides a regular reporting framework to record activities as you work towards professional registration and eventually becoming a Chartered Engineer. You will be able to benchmark your progress – with the help of your mentor against the Engineering Council’s UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) to determine when you are ready to apply for Chartered or Incorporated Engineer registration.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of mechanical engineering principles and some experience of 3D CAD design, preferably with Solidworks.
You must also be willing to live within an easy commute of our head office in Quedgeley for the full duration of your 9-12 month placement year with us.
