Contract Manager (NTS) / Operation Director
Hybrid Contract – Full time
Responsibility for ensuring technical compliance of a fleet of three vessels.
To deliver safe and efficient Technical Management locally to the NTS contract, ensuring full compliance from both regulatory and contractual perspectives.
Works to afford close and direct engagement with the Contract Manager, Marine Superintendent and Crewing Manager.
Deliver Drydocking Projects on time and within budget circa £750k.
To provide Line Management to Chief Engineers, Technical and Purchasing Administrators.
that Regulatory expectations of ISM Code Compliance are being met; To provide expert advice and guidance to the contract locally.
To act as the on-call Marine Emergency Coordinator (MEC) on a rota basis as agreed with the Contract Manager.
Developing, agreeing and managing robust annual technical business plans and budgets for vessels under management.
Ensuring that the Contract Manager is appropriately supported to provide full-service delivery including producing technical reports as required.
Continually monitoring business plans, financial plans and targets taking appropriate action to ensure technical targets are met, including submitting accurate and timely reports.
Driving operational efficiency, technical and assurance continuous improvements and engineering best practice across the contract.
Identifying, developing and implementing strategy and plans for the effective management of technical risks taking into account latest regulatory requirements (e.g. To design and implement change strategies aimed at cost saving and efficiency across the contract, communicating with the Contract Manager.
Line management of Chief Engineers, Technical Services and/or Purchasing Coordinator as required providing leadership to ensure that all staff understand and deliver the contract in accordance with the business strategy and plans, and are motivated to undertake their objectives whilst promoting a safe culture and attitude of continuous improvement. Ensuring all direct reports and staff understand their role and objectives, ensuring their performance and contribution enhances service delivery and develops a team culture.
Assisting in the recruitment, training and professional management all Sea staff within technical teams, thereby ensuring continuity of service, and promoting a safe working culture providing service excellence.
Ensuring that at all times activities are undertaken in a safe environment and are fully compliant with MCA, Class, Health and Safety, ISM ISPS codes and any other legal requirements that may be applicable to the contract.
In line with business plans and procedures, develop annual budgets and implement effective management and financial control of all technical expenditure whilst ensuring services levels are delivered safely and in compliance with the contract, Flag and Class.
To identify and report any areas where economies of scale and cost saving measures may be used without detriment to safety or levels of service.
To identify opportunities for growth, working with the Contract Manager to support achievement of the growth aspirations of the contract and/or division.
Qualified to at least STCW III/2 chief engineer and / or have a Degree in a Marine Engineering related discipline.
Developed Engineering professional with an understanding and experience of engineering and technical processes in the Marine Industry. Extensive experience as a sea-going Engineer – ideally 15 years marine experience.

At least 5 years relevant shore based technical experience to include, technical management, knowledge of port and vessel operations, maintenance, Flag and Class requirements/regulations.
Project and programme management expertise.
Familiarity and positive attitude to the use and importance of Technical Management systems.

Commercial acumen.
Budgetary management experience.
Experience of operating successfully within both Government and Commercial environments.
Ability to use Microsoft Office and AMOS software to a good standard, strong customer focus, organisational skills, time management, confidentiality and able to work on own initiative.
