The successful candidate will be working 12 hour shifts on a 4 on / 4 off basis rotating 4 day shifts (7am – 7pm), 4 days off and then 4 night shifts (7pm – 7am). This role is easily accessible from Leeds, Rothwell, Oulton, Swillington, Garforth, Wetherby, Whinmoor, Oakwood, Bradford, Dewsbury, Wakefield, Headingley, Otley, Castleford, Pontefract, Halifax and the surrounding areas.\n\nWe’re working hard to create a dynamic and inclusive environment and it’s important that our people come from a variety of different backgrounds.\n\nRole Responsibility\n\nReporting to the Operations Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance Fitter (Plant) role is part of the 24/7 engineering function at our Cross Green Asphalt Plant in Leeds. As a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter (Plant) you will be responsible for:\n\nCarrying out scheduled planned and reactive mechanical maintenance activities safely to maintain plant condition and performance to support the delivery of the weekly production schedules.\nEnsuring jobs are completed in a timely manner, leading mechanical breakdown and planned repairs to ensure plant reliability and to optimise plant and equipment performance and minimise production disruption and downtime\nOwning small scale projects and delivering them in a pragmatic and proactive manner\nTaking a cost conscious approach to maintenance activities\nCoordinating with contractors and suppliers when they are on site\nParticipating in root cause analysis so repeat failures can be eliminated\nContributing to the continuous improvement of the engineering function through your own observations and experience\nWelding and Fabricating to a good standard\nWorking with risk assessments and method statements\nContributing to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures\nMaintaining and promoting Health & Safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures.\nChallenging unsafe conditions and practices, reporting these through company procedures\nUtilising the computerised maintenance management system and recording all work including fault descriptions, spares used and repairs carried out\n\nThe Ideal Candidate\n\nThe ideal candidate for the role of Mechanical Maintenance Fitter (Plant) will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision.
You should also demonstrate proven experience working within an Industrial, Factory or similar environment. Suitable candidates for the role of Mechanical Maintenance Fitter (Plant) will:\n\nHave a recognised apprenticeship (preferably a higher-level standard)\nONC/HNC (desirable but not essential)\nHave a strong, practical mechanical systems background, heavy industry preferred - conveyors, drive systems – motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens\nPossess a fault finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action\nPossess the ability to remove and fit bearings\nBe capable of undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment\nIT literate - capable of using PCs, common applications and company systems\nAbility to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly\nKnowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices\nHappy to work overtime (may include weekends and night shifts)\n\nWhy Tarmac\n\nIn addition to the role of Mechanical Maintenance Fitter (Plant) we also offer an extensive range of career development opportunities and industry-leading rewards, incentives and benefits including:\n\nBonus scheme\nEnhanced holiday entitlement\nContributory pension scheme\nAccess to the Tarmac Reward website with discounts on retailers, holidays, etc.\nAccess to our Employee Assistance helpline for free and confidential advice\nAccess to join our Employee Communities inc.
