About the role We’re building WhyRent, a student-to-student platform that lets UK students make money by renting out stuff they already own to other verified students on campus. To launch properly at DMU and University of Leicester, we need a student video creator/editor who can make short, scroll-stopping content that actually looks like students made it. Role overview As a Student Video Creator & Editor for WhyRent, you’ll plan, shoot, and edit short-form videos (TikTok/Reels/IG) that explain the idea, show the app in action, and tell students, “you can make money with this.” You’ll work directly with the founder, shoot around campus/accommodation, and help shape the visual style of the brand. This is paid. Key responsibilities Shoot vertical videos (15–45s) on campus/accommodation using real student scenarios Edit clips with hooks, captions, on-screen text, and sound that fits TikTok/IG Turn 1 concept into 2–3 variations for ads/social Film app demo shots (list item, set price, get booking, meet on campus) Source/organise student friends to appear in videos (nice to have) Deliver content in the right formats for IG/TikTok/Reels Keep everything looking on-brand (WhyRent colours, student tone) Requirements DMU or University of Leicester current student or post-graduate (Media/Film/Creative courses welcome, but not required) You can both shoot and edit (phone CapCut is fine; Premiere/DaVinci is a bonus) You know how to make a hook in the first 2 seconds Comfortable filming people in public/campus settings Reliable and can deliver on short deadlines Nice to have Existing portfolio of TikTok/Reels you shot yourself Access to basic gear (stabiliser, mic, camera) Part of a society and can find students to feature Interest in startups / student money / content marketing What you’ll get Paid per video / per shoot (we’ll agree a fair student rate) Real startup project to add to your portfolio Your videos will actually get posted and run as ads Credit/shoutouts on WhyRent socials Chance to stay on as we roll out to more unis
