We are looking to recruit Engineering Shift Leads for our Merton Garage. Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, this hands-on workshop position will be to ensure that quality inspections and productivity is maintained, promoting safe working practices. You will provide technical support and guidance to workshop colleagues, helping to oversee the activities in the workshop. Key Responsibilities: Ensure you deliver a high standard of vehicle care to your customer, the drivers, operations, roadside teams, and Transport for London. Support the diagnosing any possible faults with the vehicles and determining the best and most effective solutions for repair and maintenance, sharing any expertise with your peers. Ensure that you remain up to date with the changing technologies of the fleet you work on, attending the relevant courses when necessary. Responsible for proactively contributing to the team performance to ensure that vehicles are maintained to high standards, Driver Road calls are responded to promptly, and that the vehicle always remains presentable and tidy. Train other employees in engineering procedures and processes to a level of competence with an attitude of “first time fix” and identifying any training requirements for your team. Support the Supervisors in ensuring all documentation is completed to the legal standard required. Support the Engineering Supervisor in ensuring tasks are carried out all wearing the appropriate protective equipment whilst working on vehicle engines and in the workshop and that you keep yourself safe whilst carrying out what is a demanding manual handling role. Cover for the Engineering Supervisor as required About You: You must be comfortable supporting engineers and helping them to develop a wide range of skills across the workshop. Flexibility of working hours is essential as shift and weekend work are a feature of this role. Some night and bank holiday work may be required. It is essential that as a Skilled Engineer you hold either the relevant apprenticeship with qualification or an NVQ Level 3 or a City and Guilds Level 3. You must be comfortable in using diagnostic equipment related to identifying faults on vehicles as well as being familiar with using computerized systems within the workshop. A PCV Licence is desirable. Location: Merton Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent (shift role working a pattern of 7 on, 3 off, 7 on and 4 off) Salary : Grade GA02 - £58,000 Per Annum.
