Job summary
Pre-Analytic Service provides operational leadership for Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Phlebotomy and specimen reception services. It covers UHCW NHS Trust including Rugby St Cross, GEH NHS Trust, South Warwick Foundation Trust including Stratford Hospital. This post is also responsible for primary care phlebotomy for Coventry and Warwickshire.
The post is supported by the Haematology Network Manager, Senior Pathology Manager for Blood sciences, and the Modern Matrons for Diagnostics.

Main duties of the job
* Ensure operational safety of the Pre-Analytic service, including active recruitment, staff development, and succession planning.
* Ensure the service meets operational and quality KPIs.
* Work with stakeholders to develop and improve the service and monitor patient experience.
* Develop future service improvements, including electronic systems, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams within pathology and with primary and secondary care stakeholders.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. Manage and monitor staff performing routine and specialized diagnostic services on potentially infectious samples, ensuring standards and performing tests as needed.
2. Design and plan departmental rotas, allocate work, and prioritize tasks to meet service needs.
3. Support the Department Manager in planning, development, and evaluation of the pathology service; deputize as required.
4. Record, validate, interpret results, and communicate reports to authorized personnel.
5. Proficiently use the Quality Management system to manage documentation, non-conformities, and audits.
6. Coordinate quality assurance schemes, supervise compliance, review findings, and implement improvements.
7. Maintain laboratory standards in line with ISO/CPA, MHRA, HTA, HSE, and other statutory requirements.
8. Ensure quality procedures are followed, records maintained, and departmental meetings led with effective communication.
