Role Overview: As an Oyster Farm Operative, you'll play a vital role in the cultivation and harvest of our premium oysters. This is a very hands-on position which requires someone who is passionate about the marine environment, sustainable practices, and local food production. Whether you're experienced in aquaculture or new to the field, this is an opportunity to work with a dedicated team in an idyllic coastal setting.
Working hours can differ from day to day as they revolve around the tides, but will be Monday to Friday, with the opportunity for some weekend work.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain and manage oyster beds, ensuring optimum growth and health of oysters
* Monitor water quality and environmental conditions to ensure sustainable farming practices
* Assist in the collection, sorting, and grading of oysters
* Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of farm equipment and infrastructure
* Participate in the harvesting process and assist with transportation to our facilities
* Work closely with the farm manager to implement best practices for oyster cultivation and sustainability
Qualifications & Skills:
* Physical fitness, as the role involves manual labour and working in the water
* Strong work ethic and the ability to work in all weather conditions
* Reliability to ensure that the farm is never understaffed.
* Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions
* A passion for marine life and sustainable farming practices
* Previous experience in aquaculture or farming (desirable but not essential)
* Good communication skills and attention to detail
