PMLD Teaching Assistant (Primary – KS1/KS2)
Are you a compassionate and dedicated individual with a passion for supporting children with complex needs? We are currently recruiting PMLD Teaching Assistants to work within a range of specialist and inclusive primary settings across South London, supporting pupils from KS1 to KS2.
This role is ideal for someone who is patient, attentive, and committed to providing high levels of care and support to pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). You will play a key role in helping children access learning through sensory-based activities, communication support, and personalised care.
Schools are looking for individuals who can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and contribute to a calm, nurturing, and structured environment where every child is supported to thrive.
These are full-time, long-term opportunities with the potential for permanent positions within highly supportive and specialised settings.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD
* Assist with personal care, including feeding, toileting, and hygiene (where required)
* Support sensory-based learning activities tailored to individual needs
* Use communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, or visual aids
* Help implement individual education and care plans (EHCPs)
* Support pupils with physical needs, including mobility and positioning
* Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff
* Promote a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
Candidate Requirements:
* Experience supporting children or young people with complex needs (desirable but not essential)
* A caring, patient, and resilient approach
* Willingness to support with personal care needs
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* A genuine interest in working within specialist education
* Understanding of PMLD or willingness to learn
Safeguarding & Compliance Requirements:
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
* Recent, relevant references
* Right to work in the UK
