This vacancy is being advertised by One Wight Health (GP Federation) on behalf of Argyll House GP Surgery.

Argyll House Surgery will be the employer for this role.

Salary: Based on experience

Closing date - 24/05/2026 but may close earlier if adequate applications are received.

We are seeking a self-motivated individual with excellent attention to detail. The successfulcandidate must have exceptional people skills and an interest and or background in healthcare. Work experience in healthcare is preferred.


Main duties of the job

To provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

Experience using the patient records database, SystmOne, is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Argyll House Surgery has been providing an excellent standard of medical care to thousands of patients in Ryde, Wootton Bridge and the surrounding villages for more than 25 years.

Our clinical team includes a fulltime GP, two part-time GPs, two practice nurses, two healthcare assistants a Clinical Pharmacist and two Physician associates. The administrative team of patient advisors, reception and secretarial staff is led by the Practice Manager and Admin Manager.

We run a full range of general practice services with special clinics for babies, pregnant women and patients with certain conditions. At the surgery we aim to treat all patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence.

Argyll House Surgery offers a caring, friendly and professional service to all our patients and advises, supports and treats them equally, without discrimination.

The last CQC inspection in May 2018 rated the practice as Good.


Job responsibilities

Reception Duties

* Receiving patients, consulting with members of practice team
* Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address
* Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary
* Process appointment requests/future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
* Deal with patient visits/requests
* Registering new patients - computer data entry and medical records
* Process patients' changes of address - computer data and medical records (have knowledge of practice catchment area)
* Processing blood test requests and generating these for appointments as per GP request
* Working closely with colleagues to complete all administrative tasks within practice procedure time frames

Telephone

* Have working knowledge of telephone systems
* Have a polite, friendly, approachable telephone manner
* Professionally deal with difficult and or agitated patients

Other Tasks

* Ensure building security
* Any other tasks allocated by managers


Person Specification


Qualifications

* GCSE Grade A to C in English and Mathematics


Skills

* Excellent communication skills (Written and Oral).
* Clear, polite telephone manner.
* Time Management and the ability to work to deadlines.
* Interpersonal skills.


Experience

* Experience in working within a Customer Service environment.
* Experience of working with the general public.
* Experience of reception work.
* Awareness of Data Protection Act and need for confidentiality of information.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with team members, patients, carers, and other healthcare professionals, with the ability to adjust communication style.
* Attention to detail, able to work accurately, identifying errors quickly and easily.
* Experience processing medication requests.
* Experience using SystmOne (Primary Care IT System).
* Experience of working within General Practice.
