The Role: Business Development Manager (BDM)
We are seeking a dynamic, results-oriented
Business Development Manager
to join their team in York. This key position is instrumental in expanding their client base, developing strategic partnerships, and driving revenue growth.
Initially, the role will be
predominantly office-based, focusing on strategy, market research, and lead generation. After a successful onboarding period (typically 612 months), the role will evolve to include
regular travel
to meet with clients, attend industry events, and explore new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategy & Market Planning
Develop and implement a business development strategy aligned with company objectives.
Conduct market research to identify emerging opportunities and understand customer needs.
Analyse sales data, market trends, and competitor activity to inform decision-making.
2. Lead Generation & Sales Execution
Identify, target, and qualify new business opportunities through a mix of cold outreach, networking, and digital campaigns.
Manage the full sales lifecycle
from prospecting to pitching, negotiating, and closing deals.
Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified leads and key accounts.
3. Client Relationship Management
Develop and nurture long-term relationships with both new and existing clients.
Act as a trusted advisor, understanding client challenges and offering tailored training solutions.
Identify opportunities for account growth through upselling and cross-selling.
4. Proposals & Presentations
Create and deliver compelling, customised proposals and presentations.
Collaborate with internal teams (Marketing, Delivery, Legal) to ensure solutions meet client and company standards.
5. Fieldwork & Travel (Post-Establishment)
Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows.
Conduct client meetings and site visits across various regions/sectors.
Report back on market intelligence, customer insights, and competitor activity.
Candidate Profile
Experience
Minimum
3 years experience
in business development, sales, or a client-facing commercial role (ideally within the training or education sector).
Proven success in meeting or exceeding sales targets.
Skills & Competencies
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking.
Proficient in CRM tools (e.g. Salesforce), Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
Highly self-motivated, organised, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
Travel Requirements
Willingness to travel regularly (2535% of the time), once established in the role.
Must hold a valid drivers license.
