General Responsibilities

· To ensure the effective day to day running of the setting adhering to policies and procedures of the nursery, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, the Childrens Act all within the requirements and guidelines laid down by Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation standards.

· To know understand and follow all policies of the organisation and ensure that the Manager is informed immediately if there are any issues or concerns regarding these.

· To ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with the current General Data Protection Regulations.

· Supervise the children ensuring that staff are in different areas of the room watching and observing what is happening for ALL children at ALL times to ensure their well being, health and safety

· To understand the individual needs of the children attending the setting and respond appropriately to ensure their needs are met.

· To understand that all staff are responsible for All children in the setting (not just their own key children) so all staff need to know and form relationships with all children

· Support all children when their own key worker is not in the setting

· Complete the children's' communication books for parents so they know what their child has done EVERY time they attend the setting.

· To follow the staff rules of behaviour and working practice

· To ensure that toys and activities are changed on a regular basis to ensure that children can be challenged by different opportunities throughout the day

· To take an active part in regular 1:1 supervision meetings with the Manager raising issues and concerns at these meetings as well as reviewing progress of children

· To attend all staff meetings and contribute to these sharing knowledge, skills and experience with others

· To attend all training required to fulfil the role of the post

· To take responsibility for identifying your own personal, professional development and discussing this with the Manager in the 1:1 meetings.

· To be prepared to go above and beyond the requirements of the job description in order to meet the needs of the nursery.

· To make the manager aware of any ideas or suggestions that you have which will improve the nursery

· To strive for improvement by using your own initiative and creative thinking and making the Manager aware of your thoughts.

· To ensure good, regular, effective communication with all parents making yourself available to regularly talk to parents, to seek out their contributions, and to attend parents evenings and events.

· To be prepared to mentor any staff as requested by manager.

· To complete all paperwork as given by the manager.

· To ensure parents receive all important paperwork and documentation.

· To meet the changing paperwork needs of the nursery and keep up to date on paperwork amendments.

· To have a positive attitude and ensure harmony within the team.

· To read the communication book before every shift and ensure to pass on all information to staff both verbally and through the communication book.

· To report any concerns to manager immediately

· To ensure that you arrive ten minutes before your shift and be on the floor ready for work at your shift start time.

· To ensure that you do not smoke in public while wearing the nursery uniform. Staff must remove uniform when smoking, must move out of view of the nursery premises. After smoking, staff must ensure hands are washed. When working in baby room, staff must ensure brush teeth before working with babies after smoking.

· To ensure that you do not wear your uniform outside of work. By wearing the uniform out of work, you will be classed as a representative of the nursery and anything you do or say must be in line with the policies and procedures of the organisation. If you bring nursery in to disrepute whilst wearing your uniform outside of work, it will be classed as gross misconduct and is a dismissible offence.

· To ensure that your mobile phones is switched off when entering the nursery.

· To ensure that you inform manager of any medication you are on which may affect your ability to work with children and to ensure that you keep all personal medication out of the reach of children.

Key Worker Responsibilities

· Be responsible for a key group of children and ensure they meet all their learning goals, observing, tracking and recording these as evidence for parents and carers

· To know who your key children are – knowing their likes, dislikes and interests, carrying out an initial assessment of their development and taking a lead role in supporting them to progress through the EYFS.

· To develop a strong bond with your key children and their parents.

· Engage and interact with your key children and their parents at each session they attend

· If necessary, to carry out the drop offs and picks up from the local schools of your key children where possible

· Ensure the personal care needs of your key children are met including regular changing of nappies where required and always just prior to the child leaving the setting

· Support your key children to settle and learn the routines of the setting

· Support your key children through all stages of their personal learning and development journey

· Support children and parents through potty training when required – discuss with parents and plan a procedure to be followed for their child

· Ensure all your key children have a water bottle, a peg, pictures on the walls, picture on the key worker board, an entry on the birthday train and that they have the opportunity to take the key worker mascot and story book home with them for a week.

· Ensure that all your key children have a strong sense of belonging to your key group.

· To set up a file for each child in your key group which shows their personal learning journey while they were attending the setting ensuring this is updated on a weekly basis.

Observation and Planning responsibilities

· To work in close partnership with parents and carers to ensure that progress and development of their child is encouraged and supported at all stages

· To work with parents and carers to establish what stages of development each child is at when they first start at the setting

· To liaise with school nursery practitioners and the Manager to ensure that planning is compatible and joint partnership working is maintained.

· To work with parents and carers to identify how you will support each key child to learn and develop new skills and progress through the EYFS based on their personal interests

· To plan activities which will support the children to learn, develop and progress through the EYFS

· To carry out a minimum of two planned activities every week for all children to enjoy

· To prepare a weekly plan for all key children explaining what you identify as the main areas that should be focused on for key children so you can track their further development; carry these planned activities out; evaluate and record for the manager to monitor

· Tracking for record of achievement to be completed for each key child once every term in consultation and discussion with parents at parents evenings

· To undertake planning with colleagues for the term ahead

· To carry out one observation per week on ALL key children

· Discuss the observations with the children's parents and record their comments on the observation forms

· Understand and ensure you fully understand the requirements of the EYFS and the importance of how observation should link to this

· Ensure that there is evidence for each observation where possible and this is included with the observation form.

· If is it not possible to have evidence, record on the observation form why it was there is no evidence.

· Ensure that the "next steps" plans are recorded on the planning wall.

· Submit completed observation form and evidence to the manager for approval

· Observations should be carried out one at a time following the observation procedure – using the appropriate clipboard. 80% of observations should be child led and only 20% of activities should be adult led and planned), respect other staff undertaking observations, observations should not be back dated or completed retrospectively.

EYFS Responsibilities

· You are responsible for knowing, understanding and following the EYFS at all times. You should be able to explain the EYFS requirements to parents, the manager, the Local Authority Development Officers and to the Ofsted inspectors.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

· You must ensure that you comply with the Health and Safety policy and procedures for Good Time Childcare at all times.

· If you identify a potential health and safety issue you must report it immediately to the manager

· If you identify a broken or dangerous toy or piece of equipment you must remove it from use immediately and report it to the manager who can arrange for a repair or replacement

· All daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly health and safety checks must be carried out

· All risk assessments must be carried out as required and the relevant paperwork must be completed and signed

· To ensure that the setting (inside and outside) is clean and tidy at all times

· To encourage and support ALL children to help to tidy up and put things away in the correct place once they have finished playing with them

· To encourage children to sort toys and objects into the correct storage boxes

· Keep storage cupboards and units clean and tidy and in the correct place

· Keep toys and equipment clean and sterilised at all times

You could also be required to carry out any other duties deemed appropriate for the role of Nursery Practitioner in order to meet the needs of the service.

Job Types: Full-time, Apprenticeship

Pay: From £12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
