This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Clinical Scientist to join our Radiotherapy team. The department completed the replacement of its linacs in 2022 with the installation of a second Halcyon, and the IT infrastructure was upgraded in May 2024. Plans are underway to expand our brachytherapy service with the replacement of the current system by the Bravos treatment unit during 2025. Additionally, the Trust is collaborating with local charities to purchase and install surface-guided radiotherapy on all four linacs.
You will be expected to have the experience required to operate at a Principal Clinical Scientist level and work collaboratively with clinical, scientific, and management teams to ensure that the cancer services provided by the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust are exemplary. Specifically, the post-holder will be expected to:
1. Take the scientific lead for Quality Assurance (QA) within the Radiotherapy Physics Department, ensuring the QA program complies with the patient and staff safety requirements of the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 (IR(ME)R17) and the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017.
2. Act as a Medical Physics Expert as defined under IR(ME)R17 for the Oncology services.
3. Lead equipment commissioning during the clinical implementation of new treatment techniques.
