Role description
As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Scotland-based Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in winning and delivering work in the environmental planning sector within Ireland. You’ll help improve quality of life through environmental management, or bring technical or sustainability expertise in areas such as protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality or noise. Our work spans large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, rail, highways, water and mixed-use developments, as well as public realm and masterplanning for both private and public clients.
We work to protect natural resources while powering our world for future generations, addressing climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity challenges.
Role accountabilities
You will be working on a diverse range of projects and will:
* Lead the coordination and delivery of planning/environmental work undertaken by multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes with a strong understanding of the Irish planning and legal system.
* Demonstrate strong business development, create project opportunities, and lead delivery of projects to build our portfolio in Ireland; collaborate with sub-consultants where appropriate.
* Raise awareness of Arcadis’ services, win new opportunities, and build new contacts.
* Actively engage in key client relationships, lead by example, and create cross-selling opportunities for the wider business.
* Engage with consultees and stakeholders.
* Manage projects, overseeing performance on technical quality, commercial aspects, and health and safety.
* Collaborate with existing Arcadis colleagues across our Global Business.
Qualifications & Experience
* Excellent working knowledge of the environmental and consenting process in Ireland, including EIA practices and procedures, case law, and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and related technical specialisms.
* Experience across a range of project types.
* Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
* Experience in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects, with solid project management and technical skills.
* Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
* Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
* Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards it.
* A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach to work.
