What's involved with this role: Council Tax Revenue Officer Job Ref: BeeLine 1743-1 Dagenham & Barking Pay Rate: £22.54 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 35 Monday – Friday, normal working hours This opening assignment is for 3 months Remote Summary of what the candidate must have to apply : Strong communication skills, written and verbal. Sound numeracy and ability to interpret financial data. Confident using IT systems, including Excel and remote-working tools. Current experience in Local Government dealing with Council Tax enquiries. Understanding of GDPR and correct handling of sensitive data. Able to manage a busy caseload, meet deadlines and work under pressure. The role: You’ll support the delivery of an effective Revenue collection service covering Council Tax, Business Rates and other income streams. Duties include processing enquiries, assessing liability, negotiating payment arrangements, managing recovery actions, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with legislation and council policy. Key accountabilities: Handle customer enquiries across all channels, ensuring fair and accurate resolution. Process liability, collection and enforcement actions on revenues systems. Negotiate repayment plans based on affordability and policy. Carry out home visits and property inspections where required. Support court proceedings and assist court officers. Allocate income, resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate account records. Identify potential fraud and report concerns appropriately. Prepare and issue bills, notices and recovery documentation. Liaise with internal teams and external agencies to progress cases. Use IT systems confidently and support system testing or updates. Ensure full compliance with GDPR, equalities, H&S and council procedures. Requirements/key criteria: GCSE-level literacy, numeracy and IT ability. Experience delivering Council Tax services in a Local Authority setting. Able to review financial statements and explain balances clearly to residents. Skilled in managing difficult conversations professionally. Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise caseloads. Experience working both independently and as part of a team. Commitment to customer service, continuous improvement and equalities. Flexible, proactive and able to learn new tasks quickly.
