DIRECTOR OF LEGAL SERVICES AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
THE JOB OPPORTUNITY
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow the Legal function of a boutique professional services firm, delivering real value to clients, the Legal team, and the business as a whole. The firm has four core disciplines in advisory, accountancy, legal, and tax, providing integrated guidance to clients.
The Director of Legal Services role is central to the success of the business. It sits on the Board, reports to the Managing Director, and is part of the Senior Leadership team.
The Legal team currently includes three departments, each led by a Head of Department. To support their growth plans, they seek an experienced leader to create a cohesive, high-performing, and profitable team.
The departments are:
* Corporate/Commercial
* Employment & Immigration
* Litigation/IP & Art Law
Your primary goals are to achieve revenue and profit targets through:
* Business development: acquiring new instructions from clients
* Leading and managing the Legal team
* Supporting clients with quality legal advice
* Maximizing team productivity
* Defining and delivering departmental strategy
REQUIREMENTS
Growth-focused: You should enjoy business development, have an established SME network, and experience speaking at events. You should embody the company's values, represent the brand externally, and support SMEs and the team to thrive.
Legal expertise: Ideally legally qualified with expertise in Corporate or Commercial law. Your ability to diagnose client needs and apply legal solutions is crucial. You should have a desire to grow your department and have the capacity to generate new business through your network.
Leadership: Experience leading high-performing teams and fostering a human-centered, ambitious culture. Capable of strategic thinking and practical delivery.
Curious, Collaborative & Commercial: Values authenticity, curiosity, collaboration, and commercial thinking. Able to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
Successful candidates are technically skilled, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and confident in driving growth.
Skills & Experience
* 8-10 years in relevant professional services
* At least 5 years advising SMEs in fast-growth UK companies
* Strategic thinking and adaptability
* Leadership experience and high-performance culture development

* Strong communication skills

* Competitive salary: approximately £100k-£140k depending on experience
