Main duties of the job
* Attend to equipment breakdowns which have been logged by way of the Trust intranet or phone.
* In line with manufacturers recommendations, carry out routine PPM servicing on a range of medical equipment to include specialised ophthalmic equipment.
* Carry out asset verification and equipment evaluation, to help effectively manage the Trusts medical equipment assets and asset replacement program.
* Responsible for meeting the agreed site based Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
* Working with 3rd party suppliers to provide the Trust with service and support in line with their agreed contract obligations.
* Required to conduct local investigations into the root causes of Clinical or Adverse Incidents.
* Responsible for carrying out any recall actions or safety enhancements which have been communicated by manufacturers or the National Safety Alert Broadcast System.
* Responsible for providing technical expertise relating to medical devices and the environment in which they are used, for example, liaising with the MHRA, professional end users and any other agency or interested party.
* Work within the department ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) and support the implementation and maintenance of the framework.

Job responsibilities
As a Clinical Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of medical equipment across the Trust. You will use your engineering expertise to carry out planned preventative maintenance, repair, and verification of medical devices including specialised Ophthalmic equipment, providing technical advice to clinical teams and liaising with suppliers, auditors, and external bodies as required.
You will be responsible for managing your own workload, contributing to equipment commissioning and decommissioning, maintaining accurate records on the Trusts database, and supporting the delivery of staff training. The role also involves working within the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, implementing policies, and responding to national safety alerts to uphold patient safety standards. The post will be based primarily at the City Road site, but you will require to support and travel to other Trust network sites very often.
Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Undergraduate Degree in Engineering or Computing
* Registration as Clinical Technologist (or working towards)
* Post graduate degree in Medical Devices Management, or equivalents
Experience
* Experience of test procedure used to verify the performance of medical equipment
* Experience of working under a Quality Management System
* Competent to plan and carry out servicing including electrical safety testing, on a range of medical equipment
* Experience of managing and prioritising own workload and working to deadlines
* Specialist experience in Ophthalmic Medical Equipment
* Good experience of Medical Devices Networking and Connectivity
Knowledge
* Knowledge of test procedures used to verify safety and performance of specialist ophthalmic medical equipment
* Extensive knowledge of Medical Equipment Databases
* Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel software packages
* Good knowledge of Medical Devices Networking and Connectivity
* Medical devices standards and legislation
* Good understanding of scientific and engineering technologies used in medical equipment
* Ability to Diagnose complex faults
* Carry out repetitive equipment testing and work in awkward positions several times each day
* Ability to communicate well with a wide range of people
