Location Background:

YMCA St Jamess Road Nursery is located near Dudley town centre, andoffers a homely and caring environment for children aged 6 weeks-5 years. Wecan offer day care places for up to 100 children in flexible sessions, all yearround, between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm Monday-Friday. We are looking for a dynamic,ambitious and passionate deputy manager to support them in delivering anexceptional service to the local community.

Job Role:



1.Motivated by the desire to help children develop, you will be part of ateam providing and maintaining high qualityeducation and care for children from birth to 5 years.



2. Thepost holder will provide a warm and welcoming environment within the Nurserywhere young children and their families can feel valued and obtain positivehelp and support.


1. Partof the Nursery management team you will provide leadership within the setting,setting a positive example to childcare practitioners, and working closely withthe Nursery Manager to ensure good practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. To offer support and guidance toparents/carers enabling them to extend their own skills, and by boosting theirconfidence and self-esteem, ensure the emotional well-being of their child.

2. To share responsibility for the displayand maintenance of a safe, stimulating, interactive, learning environment inthe Nursery.

3. To work within the guidelines of theEarly Years Foundation Stage and Ofsted Regulations and assist in the planning,preparation and delivery of an effective programme of age-appropriateactivities to help babies and young children to develop as individual learners.

4. To provide stimulating learningexperiences enabling young children to grow in confidence and independence.

5. To share responsibility for theobservation, assessment, monitoring and record keeping of childrens learningand development using a variety of methods.

6. To record these observations and produceindividual profiles for each child in your care.

7. To share responsibility for providingfull access to an effective programme of activities for children identified asrequiring additional support.

8. To participate in staff meetings.

9. To work, as directed by the NurseryManager, on a rota basis to ensure sufficient management cover is maintained atall times within the Nursery.

10. To liaise with Nursery parents and carers,maintaining a professional demeanour at all times, and inspiring confidence inthe Nursery.

11. To collect Nursery fees and chase forpayments and arrears as required.

12. To provide cover for practitioners, roomleaders and managers within the team as necessary.

13. To work in partnership with otherprofessionals involved with the children and their families, i.e. healthvisitors, teachers, Sure Start workers, speech therapists.

14. To assist with the supervision and trainingof students and junior staff.

15. To care for sick children and thosesuffering minor injury.

16. To be familiar with the fire drill andprocedures for the safety of the children.

17. To assist with checking equipment forsafety and suitability to use and preparing resources as appropriate.

18. Responsible for ensuring the room and thenursery is cleaned at the end of each day.

19. To follow the Associations ChildSafeguarding Policy and Procedure in dealingwith any child protection issues and concerns that may arise within the nurserysetting.

20. To access personal and curriculumdevelopment/ training opportunities.

21. To undertake duties in such a way thatensures a positive multi-cultural approval and with full regard for theprinciples and policies in place at the YMCA and comply with the EqualOpportunities & Diversity Policy and Child Protection Procedures within theorganisation.

22. Operate within YMCA policies andprocedures, ensuring that the health & safety of colleagues, parents/carersand yourself is maintained at all times.

23. Operate within Nursery policies andprocedures.

24. Ensure all workpractice is inclusive, expressed through a wholehearted commitment to welcomethose of all faiths and none.

25. Undertake any other related duties that areconsistent with the job.

Person Specification

DeputyNursery Manager


Experience / Qualifications


Essential

Desirable


Level three childcare qualification NNEB, BTEC, NVQ3, or similar


Evidence of success in a leadership position within a childcare setting.

Experience of working in a culturally diverse area and a commitment to equal opportunities in the workplace which creates a welcoming environment for people of all faiths and of none.


Skills / Knowledge


Detailed knowledge and understanding of Ofsted Standards.

Detailed knowledge and clear understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Ability to plan, implement and evaluation age appropriate learning opportunities

Clear and demonstrable leadership skills

Excellent customer care skills.

Excellent supervisory, communication & interpersonal skills with the staff team

Ability to complete and update childrens personal development records

Able to speak two or more local community languages

Personal Attributes

Must be able to work effectively as a team member

Ability to work flexibly to ensure that the nursery operates effectively at all times.

Ability to travel between sites when required

Other

Current first aid qualification

Ability to respect the YMCAs Christian ethos
