LUC’s finance team is well established and has an emphasis on working together whilst supporting both the support services and wider business. We constantly look for opportunities to improve and develop. The team is based across our London, Bristol, Sheffield and Glasgow offices and supports the whole of LUC. This is an exciting time to join the team having recently replaced our project accounting system.
The Project Accountant is responsible for managing financial aspects of assigned projects, including budgeting, cost tracking, reporting, and compliance. This role ensures that all financial transactions related to projects are accurate, timely, and aligned with company policies, accounting standards, and client requirements. The Project Accountant works closely with project managers, the finance team, and stakeholders to monitor project performance and support decision-making.
The Project Accountant position will be within the Project Finances team and will support the project teams with managing the finances on their projects. Some key responsibilities are:
* Supporting the project managers in setting up/maintaining project finances in line with LUCs established procedures and protocols.
* Ensuring projects have all necessary accounting information and that this information is kept up to date.
* Critically reviewing monthly work in progress with project managers/directors.
* Providing ad hoc training to professional staff on the project accounting system.
* Regular involvement in managing the finances on our largest projects.
* Create, analyse and publish financial reports on Power Bi.
* Providing other finance support as required and producing both regular and ad hoc reports from the system.
This role would suit a part qualified individual looking to gain their professional accountancy qualification and LUC would offer support whilst being supported by and reporting to the Senior Project Accountant.
A full-time role is based on 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday). However, LUC has a strong track record in flexible working, and we have been recognised for our flexible working culture, so we are happy to discuss a range of flexible working options for this role including part time hours (minimum 30 hours per week) if desired.
This is a great time to be joining LUC. Since its creation nearly 60 years ago, LUC has been driven by the belief that planning has a critical role to play in shaping the world around us for the better. This work has never been more critical or urgent.
Experience and qualifications
The successful candidate will be organised and efficient with good communication skills. They will be keen to utilise their existing skills, knowledge and expertise. This role is likely to have a strong focus on renewable energy projects, including wind farms, solar farm, mixed use technologies, and overhead lines, so an interest in this area would be beneficial.
* Individual looking to gain a professional accountancy qualification.
* Confident using Excel and used to handling large amounts of data.
* Experience in using Power Bi.
* Experience in extracting data from underlying accounting systems.
Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
