Why this role exists We’re a small, fast growing start-up that make constellations of small ocean monitoring robots called C-Stars. The C-Stars have just started completing long duration missions, collecting data unscathed in huge storms, and we’ve just begun a £2m project to build and deploy a large scale robot constellation into the north Atlantic for climate monitoring. As we grow, we need help. We need someone to steer the logistics, paperwork and people that make those missions happen, and grow into the operational brain of the company. What makes you a fit? You’re relentlessly organised: friends would trust you to run the group trip. You get into the details: sometimes, one typo can stop a shipment, you’re the sort of person who would catch it. Independent & responsible: you’d decide to phone up and reroute a 300 kg pallet at midnight if that kept a sea‑trial on schedule. You learn fast: whether it’s Google Sheets formulas, lithium battery regulations or mailchimp, you enjoy picking up new skills and figuring things out quickly. You're calm in chaos: We’re a hectic startup, and plans change fast - you’re good at keeping a cool head and making things happen amidst the chaos. The Package £30 – 35 k salary 0.2 – 0.5 % EMI stock options Location: In person at our Plymouth waterfront office & workshop. We know many applicants might be based outside of commuting distance to Plymouth - apply and specify this if this is a major factor. (Optional) Up to 20 days/year paid travel—sea‑trials in Sweden, demos in Lisbon, conferences in Canada Your role at Oshen Your work will be incredibly varied. You’ll be organizing the shipping of C-Stars worldwide, drafting VAT returns, staying on top of battery certifications, writing conference abstracts, customer newsletters, joining sea trials, shaving costs from our materials bill. We’re open to a wide range of candidates, and as such experience in these tasks isn’t essential. We expect this role will transition to either a project manager, Chief of Staff or COO as Oshen grows, and are willing to offer the support and training to make this happen depending on your ambitions. Experience We care about your ability to get things done, not shiny certificates. We’ll be hiring for the five traits listed earlier: organisation, detail focus, ownership, fast learning and calm under pressure. Experience and proof of these is what we’re looking for in the hiring process. Whether this experience came from a degree, a former ops title, or from a side project doesn’t matter to us. Why this role? You’ll see the nuts and bolts of almost every part of Oshen—hardware, software, finance, customer success, you name it. You’ll learn how prototypes transition into a product the market pays for. Don't like being a tiny cog in a big machine? You'll get to design & build the entire gearbox and make sure it runs smoothly. Why Oshen? We’ve spotted a problem. Data steers almost every decision we make: from routing Ubers through rush‑hour traffic to telling your smartwatch when to stand up. Yet the ocean, which covers 70 % of the planet, regulates our weather & climate, carries 80% of the world’s goods around the globe is still a blank spot on the map. Autonomous surface vessels exist, but nobody has cracked the next leap: tiny, low‑cost robots deployed by the thousand for always‑on, truly global monitoring. We want to build a world where the oceans are no longer a great unknown. We're a small team that's already made our rugged C-Stars successfully navigate through storms, operate across 3 continents, provide ocean data to key institutes, and we're just getting started. Our Hiring Process Apply here: https://hiring.oshendata.com/, you'll answer three brief questions and upload your CV. Step 1: 15min intro call Step 2: Remote assessment interview Final: Half day with the Oshen team (expenses covered)
