The purpose of the Sous Chef post is to support the Catering Manager in delivering safe, nutritious, and appetizing meals to patients, staff, and visitors at Harrogate District Hospital. The role ensures high standards of food preparation, hygiene, and kitchen operations are maintained, while also contributing to menu planning, staff supervision, and the delivery of specialist dietary requirements in line with NHS guidelines.

Main duties of the job

1. Assist the Head Chef in menu preparation.

2. Prepare, cook & serve nutritional, balanced and appetizing meals.

4. Lead the kitchen staff during the Head Chef`s absence.

5. Guide and supervise the junior kitchen staff during food preparation.

6. Liaise with nursing colleagues to meet patients nutritional & dietary needs.

7. Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, service areas & dining room.

8. Ensure compliance with health & safety standards and Food Hygiene Regulations.

9. Handle, maintain & store kitchen equipment in accordance with Trust's/HIF procedures.

10. Use chemicals in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.


About us

Harrogate Integrated Facilities (HIF) was formed in 2018 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Harrogate and District Foundation NHS Trust. We supply a wide range of services to the hospitals and community sites, including; cleaning, catering, portering, hotel services, estates maintenance, sterile services, equipment library, security, car parking, general office, energy, waste and environmental impact reduction.

One of our dedicated HIF colleagues, is often the first person a patient or visitor meets when they come to Harrogate District Hospital and can make a really positive difference to them. Our work is also vital to ensure that our colleagues in the medical teams have the facilities and equipment they need to provide excellent care

Person Specification


Qualifications and Experience

* oNVQ level 3 or equivalent Food
* oHACCP level 2 certificate
* oPrevious experience of working within a catering environment.

£26,530 to £29,114 a yearper annum pro rata
