Court Usher - HMCTS (Wood Green Crown Court, North London)
Location: Wood Green Crown Court
Contract: Full-time, Temporary (6 months, likely to extend)
Pay: £13.25 per hour (includes pension & holiday pay)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (37 hours/week)
Agency: Brook Street, on behalf of HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS)
Role Overview
We are recruiting a Court Usher to support the smooth operation of court hearings at Wood Green Crown Court. This front-line role involves courtroom preparation, assisting judges and legal professionals, and providing administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prepare and maintain courtrooms for hearings
2. Assist judges and court staff, in person and via Microsoft Teams
3. Swear in witnesses and track attendance and Supervise jury deliberations when required
4. Manage documents: scanning, uploading, photocopying
5. Handle scheduling, liaise with parties, and serve legal documents
6. Process payments and warrants (including chip & pin use)
7. Ensure professional standards of conduct and presentation
8. support with admin duties in the listings team
Requirements and skills
9. Good communication and customer service skills, experience working in a customer service is required
10. professional to all court users with good timekeeping
11. confidence to speak in court publicly
12. Comfortable handling sensitive or distressing criminal case material
13. Calm, polite, and professional under pressure
14. Admin experience
15. Confident with Microsoft Office
16. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
