Job Details Job Title: CJU Witness Care Officer x7.5 - HC623475 Location : Southampton, Basingstoke, Portsmouth - although there are 3 locations available, there is more availability at Southampton and Basingstoke Police Investigation Centres. Interest at Portsmouth is still welcome. Hybrid working is available once training has been completed to the required standards. Salary: Scale 5, £30,333 - £32,613 per annum (full time) - pro-rata £15,166 - £16,306 (part-time) Hours : 37.00 hours per week x7 posts - 18.5 hours per week x1 post - c ore hours are Monday – Friday from 0800-1600 or 0900-1700 Contract : Temporary until 31st March 2027 Closing Date : Sunday 8th March at 23.59 hou rs Internal Secondment Declaration Form If you would like to apply for this temporary post as a secondment you must have the prior approval of your current Line Manager and Head of Department. Please therefore ensure you have completed the ‘Police Staff Internal Secondment Declaration’, and forwarded it as instructed to obtain their sign-off. The Criminal Justice Unit are looking for a Witness Care Officer to establish and maintain contact with victims and witnesses in order to improve confidence and satisfaction to ensure service level agreements are met. About the role You will conduct Needs Assessments of victims and witnesses, to identify and manage their needs, providing a tailored response, ensuring their attendance at court and therefore reducing the number of ineffective trials. You will l iaise with the Crown Prosecution Service and Police Officers regarding victim and witness issues and difficulties to ensure effective case progression as well as external groups and agencies to ensure that witnesses’ needs are met. You will ensure that witnesses are warned for trial and appropriate measures are in place at Court to assist vulnerable or intimidated witnesses or other witnesses who may have special needs and alert appropriate personnel to any potential witness problems that cannot be resolved. Part of this role will also be to develop and maintain administrative and IT systems to ensure efficient management of caseload and post handling systems.
