1-2 months contract with a local authority Job Purpose The Facilities Manager is responsible for leading and delivering high ‑ quality Soft Facilities Management (FM) services across the Council ’ s estate. The role ensures services such as cleaning, security, reception and related functions are delivered efficiently, in line with corporate objectives, statutory requirements and value ‑ for ‑ money principles. The postholder will manage internal teams and external contractors, contribute to strategic planning, and ensure continuous improvement in facilities management performance across the organisation. Key Duties/Accountabilities Support the Head of Corporate Soft FM in strategic planning and service delivery. Develop and implement strategies, policies and procedures for soft FM services. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across facilities management operations. Contribute to sustainability and carbon reduction plans across the estate. Oversee delivery of soft FM services including cleaning, security, reception and support services. Ensure services meet agreed standards, KPIs and value ‑ for ‑ money expectations. Monitor performance and implement improvements where required. Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and Council policies. Essential Experience Required Significant experience in facilities management within a large or complex organisation. Experience managing and leading multidisciplinary teams. Proven experience of contract management, procurement and supplier oversight. Experience managing budgets and delivering value for money. Essential Qualifications Required Relevant degree or significant equivalent experience in facilities management or a related field. Professional membership (e.g. IWFM) is desirable. Knowledge of facilities management best practice, contract management and procurement processes. Strong understanding of health and safety legislation (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely essential; NEBOSH desirable). Knowledge of asset management systems and CAFM tools.
