Job Title: Assistant Accountant Location: Altrincham Salary: £30,000 - £32,000 per annum Hours: 37 hours per week Contract: Permanent, Full-time, fully office based A well-established legal practice in Altrincham is looking to appoint an Assistant Accountant to support its finance function. This key role contributes to the effective day-to-day management of the firm's financial activities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal accounting regulations. The role would suit someone with a background in the legal sector or professional services who is comfortable working in a busy, detail-driven environment. Collaborating closely with fee earners, senior management, and support teams, you will be involved in daily banking, reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance processes. Key Responsibilities: Complete daily banking duties and bank reconciliations. Issue and post cheques. Manage all accounts posting and assist with month-end routines and reporting. Prepare VAT and PAYE returns. Oversee payroll and purchase ledger processes. Download and post daily bank statement entries. Maintain and utilise online banking systems effectively. Input and monitor legal aid claims (where applicable). Work with legal case management systems Provide financial support to fee earners and management teams. Ensure compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules (SRA). Key Requirements: Experience as Assistant Accountantm Legal Cashier, Legal Accounts Clerk, Finance Assistant, or similar. Background in legal or wider professional services. Highly accurate with strong attention to detail. Able to work independently and collaboratively. Organised, proactive, and confident in managing competing priorities. Strong communication skills and a supportive, team-oriented approach.
