IT Network Manager
, you will play a pivotal role in defining the network strategy and technical direction that supports essential scientific and operational work. You will lead a skilled team of Network Engineers responsible for:
* Operational management of the organisation's IT networks
* Firewall technologies and telephony services
* Network support for multiple sites across the UK
Key Responsibilities
* Lead technical planning, design, and implementation of network and security upgrades and projects
* Develop reporting and automated remediation tools to support robust cyber‑security decisions
* Manage network incidents, produce business‑wide reporting, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders
* Allocate technical resources to meet SLAs on time, to budget, and to quality standards
* Manage external suppliers and service providers to support high network availability
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong blend of leadership and technical expertise across modern network technologies, ideally including:
Technical Requirements
* Experience with LAN/WAN/Voice/Wi‑Fi environments (knowledge of Alcatel‑Lucent is advantageous)
* Strong skills with firewalls (Fortinet), VPN technologies, and cloud networking (Azure)
* Understanding of estates‑based infrastructure such as BMS, CCTV, and environmental controls
* Practical experience with network devices, protocols, and services such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, IPAM, DHCP/DNS
* Familiarity with IoT systems, scientific IT environments, segmentation/zero trust models, and large data handling
* Hands‑on experience with monitoring and reporting tools such as SolarWinds and Wireshark
* Ability to support network design across connectivity, capacity, interfacing, security, availability, and remote access
* Knowledge of operational network management processes and infrastructure
Leadership & Soft Skills
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including working with third‑party vendors and internal delivery teams
* Strong analytical and strategic thinking
* Ability to lead, develop, and mentor team members
* Highly organised with strong time‑management skills
