Pupils may have experienced past trauma, faced adverse life experiences and/or be struggling with mental health issues like anxiety, depression and PTSD. Pupil needs are high, and having an understanding and empathy for students struggling with their mental health is an essential quality for this role. Similarly, to have an appreciation for the ways in which students may express their needs through physically aggressive or verbally abusive behaviour is vital.
