BAND C SPECIALIST SENIOR DENTAL OFFICER

Specialist Senior Dental Officer - Band C Part‑time – 22.5 hours per week (Up to 0.6 WTE)
Fixed term 12 months; Salary: NHS Salaried Dentists Band C.
Main duties
The post holder provides emergency and routine dental care for patients with severe needs who cannot be treated elsewhere within the service. Work is based at one of the Health Centres or Clinics in Bristol and surrounding areas, with occasional travel across the BNSSG catchment. The role includes treatment with sedation, domiciliary care and local anaesthesia as required, and requires close collaboration with Dental Therapists and other clinicians.
Job responsibilities
Support and advise colleagues, delivering treatment plans and case discussions for complex patients; contribute to service development; liaise with commissioners, General Dental and Medical Practitioners; mentor junior staff; participate in peer review, clinical governance and audit projects.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
* Excellent professional practice in dentistry, including experience treating patients with complex issues and high treatment needs.
* Previous experience in general practice, hospital, CDS or PDS settings.
* Understanding and application of evidence‑based dentistry.
* Experience working within the Salaried Dental Service with active involvement in service development.
* Previous involvement in epidemiological surveys.
Skills and Abilities
* Organisational skills, prioritising workload.
* Ability to lead by example and motivate a team.
* Commitment to continuing postgraduate professional development.
* Entitlement to live and work in the UK.
* Experience teaching junior staff, undergraduate dentists or ancillary staff.
* Attendance at management training courses.
* Evidence of practice change through clinical audit programmes.
Additional & Aptitudes
* Full registration with the GDC.
* Active NHS Performer Number.
* Minimum of three years’ experience treating patients with additional needs in a community dental clinic.
* Current UK driving licence.
* Specialist registration with GDC (or within 6 months of obtaining).
Qualifications and Training
* BDS or equivalent degree.
* Up‑to‑date completed CPD log.
* Verified sedation performer log.
* Completion of a Specialist Training programme.
