Purpose of the Role
Colas Ltd has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the Area 9 team. You will be based in Bescot, WS1 4NL, and report to the Senior Quantity Surveyor. The role involves providing support to the Commercial team with the administration of the Area 9 M & R Contract (Highways Maintenance & Response Contract) and carrying out reconciliation of cost and value for recovery through the contract mechanism.
Main Responsibilities
Assist with the collation of data for monthly reports and commercial activities required for the contract, and provide accurate and timely reports as required. Assist with pricing of new works in accordance with the contract mechanisms and manage subcontractor work packages. Identify and interpret Key Performance and Result Measures, evaluate change through analysis of rates or compensation methods, and agree on the effects of change. Participate in the preparation, presentation, negotiation and agreement of interim and final accounts, including re‑measurement in accordance with a standard method of measurement, and work closely with QS to ensure framework quotations and prices are issued on time and in accordance with contract conditions. Ensure all commercial processes comply with Colas’ corporate governance and group standards, and undertake any other tasks assigned by the line manager.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline. Experience within highways is desirable but not essential; candidates from a finance background are encouraged. Excellent communication skills, adaptability, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites (especially Excel and Outlook), strong organisational and problem‑solving skills, and a valid UK driving licence are essential.

* Salary of up to £35,000 (dependent on experience) PLUS Company Car/Car allowance
