Ranger / Ceidwad - Betws Y Coed Summary Important notice In line with our redeployment policy, we’ll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic person for the role of Ranger on the vast 20,316 acres of stunning uplands and agriculture land on Ysbyty Estate. As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people. You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call. In this role, you will work closely with farm tenants, volunteers, and the local community, the majority of whom are Welsh speakers, so the ability to communicate effectively in Welsh is essential for this role. To view the rest of the advert in Welsh, please see attached document. What it's like to work here You will work closely with our area ranger to carry out a variety of practical tasks and projects. Ysbyty Ifan is one of our largest agricultural estates. It comprises approximately 20,316 acres of stunning uplands, all within the boundaries of Snowdonia National Park, and includes the Machno, Eidda and Upper Conwy Valley valleys. The estate consists of 51 farms and 30 houses. Breeding sheep and beef cattle is the main form of farming. The Ysbyty estate is of great importance for the conservation of nature, home to several of our rarest wild birds and there are several areas throughout the estate under SSSI protection. In Conwy, Eidda and the Machno, the land in our care is a network of small family farms and woods. The landscape is under the management of the National Trust to be protected from larger industrial agricultural developments. We work to help nature thrive and support farmers to farm in a traditional manner and close to nature. What you'll be doing As a Ranger working for the National Trust, it will be part of your job to conserve and expand biodiversity on our estate. Either through our work to increase the number of trees and woods on the estate or through our work to improve and progress our wildflower meadows. You'll have every opportunity to work close to nature. You will work well alone and as part of the team, with volunteers and others from outside the organisation. There are several exciting projects and partnerships underway, across the estate, such as the Upper Conwy catchment projects where our officers and partners have been working hard to reduce flooding of the river Conwy. At times, you'll also work with various educational and volunteer groups to carry out a variety of conservation tasks, such as wildflower meadow management, tree planting, and many more woodland management tasks. You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.
