An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacy technician to join the existing, inclusive and dedicated team of Pharmacy Technicians at The Princess Royal Hospital.
The Pharmacy Technician team at UHSussex is a growing, dynamic and skilled workforce, with the successful candidate joining a unified and developing team across multiple sites. You will need to be caring, responsible and highly motivated with good interpersonal and IT skills. You should be good at working in a team and under pressure, problem solving, meeting deadlines and supporting staff in their development.
If you are already a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician within the NHS, and can demonstrate the required competencies, you could be appointed into a Band 5 role immediately. However we are offering a comprehensive training package which will develop your skills in order for you to progress from a Band 4 to 5 Pharmacy Technician.

Main duties of the job
Upon completion of the training provided, you will demonstrate the required competencies and progress into a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician position.
You will be expected to deputise for the Dispensary Lead Pharmacy Technician and work in our busy dispensary, where you will label, dispense, and check prescriptions for in‑patients and discharges.
Comprehensive in‑house training will be provided including working towards achieving an accreditation as an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician if not already qualified. Support from dedicated, experienced facilitators will be provided to enable you to progress.
Job responsibilities
* Prepare labels using the pharmacy computer system (CMM) from a requisition/prescription for both in‑patients and out‑patients, ensuring accurate data entry.
* Dispense for in‑patients from a requisition/prescription ensuring each item is accurately dispensed, and in the correct packaging, according to SOPs.
* Accurately record the batch numbers and expiry dates of named patient medications, unlicensed medications and human blood products according to pharmaceutical SOPs and national requirements.
* Perform the final accuracy check on dispensed items, from clinically screened prescriptions, upon completion of National Accreditation Accredited Checking Technician course.
* Upon completion of in‑house training and competencies, label, dispense and check controlled drugs for wards/departments against a ward stock order, without the need for a final check.

Professional registration
* Registered (or eligible to register) as a Pharmacy technician with the GPhC
Qualifications
* NVQ level 3 - Pharmacy Services or equivalent (or working towards)
* Hospital pharmacy experience

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £28,392 to £39,043 a year pro rata
Visa sponsorship: This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role‑specific criteria. If you are applying using a Graduate visa as your right to work, you must have a minimum of 18 months remaining on your visa at time of application.
