To provide engineering & design solutions from work winning concept phase to practical completion of projects with the common goal to win projects and to increase site net margin.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
1. Deliver competitive designs (holistic rather than simply pile element).
2. Ensure design efficiency and buildability. Take full accountability for creating designs that are not only efficient but also practical and buildable, with input from collaboration with the operational teams.
3. Provide technical and design support to all BSL departments and be fully integrated with estimating and operational teams to aid their performance.
4. Responsible for cage standardisation with the approval of the PM (cost).
5. Provide controlled pile schedules tailored to site.
6. Responsible for the production of fabrication drawings including temporary works/lifting points in the cages.
7. Leading, checking, and approving fabrication drawings from cage suppliers.
8. Responsible for the production of method drawings (cage installation, central bar installation, etc...).
9. Ensure method drawings are understood by key onsite personnel (work manager, PM, supervisor).
10. Responsible for the production of PTP and WTP drawings.
11. Analyse project input to reach an agreed and integrated design solution.
12. Design based on performance and observational approaches rather than solely compliance.
13. Contribute to technical handover to operational teams and define pre-agreed mitigations (anticipation vs reaction).
14. Attend external meetings with clients.
15. Manage internal and external client expectations.
16. Meet KPI set by the Engineering Manager and promote positive engagement.
17. Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes within the department.
18. Share ideas with colleagues and broader organization members.
19. Conduct benchmarking to identify best practices and future trends.
20. Engage with estimating and operational teams for ongoing improvement.
Physical Working Environment:
Regular travel between sites, main offices, and yard is required.
Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications:
1. Masters in Civil Engineering.
2. Chartered Engineer or working towards chartered status preferred.
3. Ability to design piles and embedded retaining walls.
4. Experience with micropiles, minipiles, ground anchors, soil nailing, soil mixing, and jet grouting is advantageous.
5. Design of pile caps, capping beams, and slabs is advantageous.
6. Knowledge of ground conditions in North UK.
7. Understanding ground condition risks (mining, sinkholes, scour).
8. Basic CAD skills for simple drawings and cross-sections.
9. Familiarity with construction processes and site practices.
10. Knowledge of WALLAP software is advantageous.
11. Ability to assess technical and commercial risks.
12. Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.
13. Willingness to work in an office and fast-paced team environment.
14. Recognize personal knowledge limitations and seek growth.
15. Resilient, assertive, humble, optimistic, adaptable.
16. Good presentation skills and confidence in client and team interactions.
