Offer description

Who we are:

We’ve been helping clients plan and save for their futures for over 50 years. From more than 25 locations around the world, we provide investment services and retirement expertise to everyone from central banks to private individuals.

As part of our commitment to making things better, we’re continually exploring technology and different ways of working to put our clients first. Digital here isn’t just changing how we provide services – it’s changing everything.

The Programme you’ll join:

We don’t expect you to come straight in and know everything about what we do.

As a Technology Graduate, and whatever you’re studying, we’ll help make sure you get the most out of your time with us. Fidelity is a fantastic place to learn, innovate and grow. There are expert colleagues around the world to learn from and share ideas with.

Our expert Technology team empower our people and support our progress all around the world. They develop the applications and infrastructure that underpin everything from trading and operations to compliance and customer service. And they’re always searching for new and better ideas.

As a Technology Graduate focusing on AI Engineering, we’ll help you get the most from your time with us. You’ll rotate with product teams building LLM-powered applications and services, learn to design and deploy Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools and servers, and deliver reliable back‑end APIs with FastAPI in Python. You’ll be mentored by experienced engineers and will contribute to production‑grade AI features that support colleagues and clients across our business.

Our Technology teams develop the applications and infrastructure that underpin everything from trading and operations to compliance and customer service. And they’re always searching for new and better ideas.

The difference you’ll make:

You’ll contribute to positive, meaningful work that makes a difference to our clients and employees. Depending on the team you join, this may include:

* Building MCP tools/servers that safely connect LLMs to internal data and actions (search, knowledge retrieval, workflow execution), including permissions and guardrails.

* Prompt engineering: crafting robust prompts and schemas (JSON/function calling), enforcing structured outputs, and implementing evaluation and safety checks.

* Developing Python services and FastAPI endpoints to expose AI capabilities, with clean, well‑tested, and observable code.

* Implementing retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) and embeddings where appropriate; tuning for latency, reliability, and cost.

* Creating simple internal UIs/dashboards to demo AI features and to monitor quality, tokens, cost and performance.

* Using analytics/metrics (logging, tracing, dashboards) to iterate on prompt and model performance and to drive improvements.

* Writing and maintaining clear documentation to provide transparency and build our knowledge base.

You may also gain exposure to:

* Cloud‑hosted data platforms and pipelines that feed AI use cases; defining logical data models and APIs for consistent access.

* Data quality practices (cleansing, standardisation) and privacy‑by‑design (PII handling, secrets management, least privilege).

* Central functions that support global Technology (financial forecasting, change oversight, risk and audit) to understand delivery at scale.

How you’ll be supported:

You’ll start with a welcome and an orientation, where you’ll meet your fellow Graduates and find out all about us and our work. After that, there are many more ways to develop your skills as your placement progresses including completing of Unit 1 of the Investment Operations Certificate (IOC).

Once the programme begins, you’ll learn every day – from the experts around you and through tackling real projects. Our focus will be on supporting you to gain experience and discover what kind of future you could build in our industry.

Support is part of our culture, so you’ll have a buddy and a mentor to help you whenever you need. And you’ll join a close‑knit early careers community, with plenty of social and networking events to help you find your feet and feel at home.

What we look for:

It’s who you are that matters here, rather than what you studied.

We look for Graduates who are analytical, eager to learn and ready to take on a challenge. A genuine curiosity and eagerness to learn about technology is vital, as is a great interest in our work and our industry. Creative thinking and the ability to build and develop relationships with colleagues is important to.

We welcome applications from students from ALL degree backgrounds; you do not need a technology related degree. If you’re inquisitive and ambitious, a placement at Fidelity is a great opportunity to discover whether this kind of work is for you.

Essential:

* Curiosity about AI with a practical mindset; awareness of LLM capabilities and limitations.

* Hands‑on Python skills (data handling, packaging, virtual environments, testing with pytest).

* Ability to build simple web services with FastAPI.

* Understanding of Model Context Protocol (MCP) basics: what MCP is, how tools & servers expose capabilities to AI clients, and how to keep them safe.

* Prompt engineering fundamentals (few‑shot patterns, structured outputs/JSON, validation, evaluation basics).

* Git/GitHub fundamentals and a focus on secure, maintainable code.

Nice to have (not required):

* Experience building MCP tools with frameworks such as FastMCP or similar lightweight MCP libraries.

* Retrieval & vector search (e.g., pgvector/FAISS) and RAG pipeline basics.

* Front‑end exposure (React) to build simple internal UIs for AI features.

* LLM evaluation and safety tooling (prompt tests, guardrails, red‑teaming concepts).

* Containers (Docker) and interest in CI/CD, Kubernetes, and GitOps.

And, as we’re an international organisation, we’ll need you to speak English.

We’ll also need you to:

* Be graduating in 2026 (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree)

* Successful candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK from the start date.

Our clients come from all walks of life and so do we. We are proud of our inclusive culture and encourage applications from the widest mix of talent, whatever your age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, social background and more.

As an adaptable employer, we trust our people to perform their role in the way that works best for them, our clients, and our business.
