We’re looking for a Principal Expert to join us and play a leading role in shaping one of the most significant market reforms underway.

Job Summary
You’ll work on the Reformed National Pricing programme, a major DESNZ‑led initiative where Ofgem has central influence on policy design and regulatory direction. This permanent role sits at the heart of the programme, operating in a complex, fast‑moving environment and applying deep expertise to shape outcomes that will have long‑term impact on consumers and the energy system.
As a high‑performing and diverse team member you will have real agency and visibility, leading thinking, influencing senior decision‑makers and contributing to reforms that will define how the system evolves for decades.
Person Specification
* Comprehensive and proven knowledge of energy markets and key regulatory measures, including transmission access rights, network charging frameworks, and connection regimes.
* Experience leading in a complex environment, acting as an internal expert – advising and challenging senior leaders on strategic and operational matters, presenting risks, trade‑offs and wider commercial and economic considerations to decision‑makers.
* Proven experience managing people, directly or as part of virtual teams, and delivering projects against challenging deadlines with minimal supervision.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to effectively communicate complex issues to non‑expert audiences.
* Demonstrated understanding and experience analysing market behaviour of storage and demand‑side resources.
* Familiarity with licensing and industry codes frameworks and change processes.

Benefits
Salary: £61,446. OFGEM contributes £17,800 towards a Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. You will receive 30 days annual leave after two years, hybrid working (currently one day a week in the office), flexible working hours, family‑friendly policies, training and development opportunities, and other benefits that support a Net Zero energy system by 2050.
